Behind The ScoreBench is a referee with over a decade on Guam's courts — starting as a youth referee at 14, earning a FIBA referee license in 2021, and becoming a FIBA table official in 2022. That path has taken the game from local Guam gyms all the way to FIBA Asia competition. Not built from the outside, but by someone who's spent real time on both sides of the scorer's table.
That vantage point is exactly where the problem shows up. Scorers don't always know the rules as well as the officials do — and it's easy to miss things that matter: a bonus free-throw situation that should've been called, a mismatched final score, a foul that never made it onto the sheet. Small gaps in the moment, but they add up to a record that isn't quite right.
The idea began small — an existing basketball scoresheet, built with AI, one feature added at a time. But add enough patches to something that was never meant to grow that big, and it becomes something nobody can fully trust or safely build on anymore, not even the person who built it. Rather than keep patching it, the decision was made to start over and build it properly: a real platform, not a workaround.
The result is a digital scorer's table designed by someone who's actually sat at one. It's built to simplify scoring in the moment. It brings consistency to how games get recorded across officials and venues, so the rules get followed whether or not the scorer has them memorized. And it preserves a complete, reliable history of every game long after the final buzzer. Basketball first, with NFHS, FIBA, and a flexible Modified ruleset for tournaments that write their own rules — and more sports to follow.
None of that should come at a premium. The ScoreBench is built to be cost-efficient enough to replace a paper scorebook without a second thought, and user-friendly enough that picking it up mid-tournament doesn't require training.
The bigger goal is to grow The ScoreBench into Guam's first sports management platform — built on the island, for the island, in support of local sports and the athletes who play them.
